Training for stop smoking advisors

The HSE has an online training programme for people who want to become stop smoking advisors.

One of the ways the HSE helps people stop smoking is by getting support from a stop smoking advisor.

This type of support - behavioural support - increases smokers' chances of stopping smoking long-term.

How to become a stop smoking advisor

  1. Apply for training
  2. Do the level 1 Making Every Contact Count online training on HSELanD
  3. Do the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training Practitioner online training
  4. Do the course assessment

The assessment is a multiple-choice question (MCQ) test based on the course content. If you pass the assessment you can get HSE and NCSCT certification as a tobacco cessation specialist practitioner.

The programme was developed by the National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training UK (NCSCT).

What's involved

The training includes:

  • 6 to 8 hours of study materials
  • information on the main points of behavioural support
  • video clips
  • links to other resources

You can access it as many times as you need.

You can choose your own path in the course - depending on your prior knowledge and experience.
